OUGD504 - Design for Print (3) - Branding & Identity

Below are the 5 Examples of Logos & Branding I chose to bring in:

Initially, Lorraine picked apart the NASA logo:

- 2 colours used - possibly depending on background
- Red is used - representing danger?
- white suits, and blue in other areas of NASA - patriotic
- Futuristic Typography
- Rounded - Aerodynamics
- Tubing connects shuttles, simulated through typography.
- A & S linked - Possibly connecting Astronauts through Space.
- The company went through a rebranding due to associations of the logo with the crash.

As a group, we presented each of our logo's, as well as analysing them:

Apple: Simple - Technical
- Down to Earth
- Sans Serif - Modern
- Conversational tone of voice, yet a huge corporation.
- Apple Logo represents ingenuity at the forefront of technology (reference to Newton & the apple, or possibly even the poisonous apple eaten by Adam in the Bible)

Liz Earle: Natural, Healthy - Earthy Tones
The logo represents the combination of science and nature.

Bagel Nash: A rounded font, mimicked the shape of the Bagel.
- The use of no caps, making the company seem small, down to earth.

All Saints: Factory Outlet aesthetic
- A general industrial feel - separates them from other fashion brands
- Hard wearing

Jo Malone:  Cream - Sophisticated
- 'London' - Carnaby Street
- Using a logotype instead of a logo, similar to many other high end fashion brands, gives a sophisticated feel.

The Botanist:  Victorian Class.
- Reminscent of old iron work.
- More appealing to a feminine audience

Elemis:  Clinical
- The 'E' could represent a wave.
- Natural
- Fresh - anti aging
- Science meets natural remedy

Chloe: High End Fashion - Gold / Silk
 - The acute accent on the 'e', emphasizes the company is French.

Yoobi:  More sophisticated than Yo Sushi - separating themselves.
- Eco Friendly

Puma: The use of a Puma - An active, alert animal.
- Pumas are awake in both the night and day, representing the usage of Puma clothes.

Twinings: A much older audience than above.
- Established.
- A crest is used to show the links to royalty.
- ' Typically British'

Sony VAIO:  The combination of the symbol for analog signals, and that of digital.
- Futuristic

BRAUN: Proportional scale / size
- Does the 'a' represent an electric razor?
- Possible a head with long air?
- Masculine and bold
